Consulting

Support and consulting for testing and certification of unmanned aerial systems

With advancing technology, unmanned, autonomously controlled flight systems offer a wide range of interesting commercial applications.

If the drone weighs more than 30 kg, or if it is to leave the pilot’s field of vision, a permit must be applied for from the Federal Office of Civil Aviation (FOCA), which includes a safety assessment.

A major challenge is how to avoid dangerous approaches or collisions with other airspace users, whether birds, paragliders or fighter jets.

With the aviation knowledge gained through decades of experience as a professional pilot, manager and flight instructor, rahm aviation consulting supports its clients in creating safety concepts and developing standard procedures with the goal of obtaining a FOCA permit (SORA permit).

Mediation / Negotiation

Clarification of needs and mediation of a usage agreement for the UAV testing zone

rahm aviation consulting offers companies and operators of unmanned aerial systems (UAS) the opportunity to test their aircraft in an ideal, protected flight test zone at the Schaffhausen airfield.

After an individual needs assessment, the gliding group Schaffhausen concludes a usage agreement with the interested user of the UAV test zone.

Planning and coordination

Reservation and coordination for the UAV testing zone

With few exceptions, UAV test flights are possible at the Schaffhausen airfield on working days throughout the year, normally between 08:00 and 18:00 local time.

rahm aviation consulting plans and coordinates the available dates and slots. In individual cases, it will be clarified whether the UAV test flight zone can be used exclusively or together with another test.

UAV / RPAS Competence Center Schmerlat

Schaffhausen-Neunkirch, radio call sign Schmerlat, is located in the middle of Klettgau and is the most northerly located airfield in Switzerland. The 600 meter long grass runway 07 / 25 runs almost east-west. The two hangars are located on the south side. Integrated are two workshops, a heated lounge, a kitchen and a kiosk. WLAN, shower and a mattress camp are also available.

This constellation offers UAV and RPAS pilots the great advantage of being able to keep an optimum view of their aircraft at all times thanks to the „sun behind them”. Other airspace users can also be detected at an early stage.

Schmerlat is home to the Schaffhausen Gliding Club, which owns the airfield. This traditional air sports club has been in existence since 1933 and has around one hundred active members. The activities take place mainly on weekends between March and October. Isolated flight movements during the week are possible and have priority over UAV test flights. For the operators of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV), this is an opportunity to test „detect and avoid” systems and the associated procedures in practice.
